The AK-47 is a gas operated rifle designed by Mikhail Kalashnikov. One of the first true assault rifles, the AK-47 was conceived during Kalashnikov's years in the Russian army when he was wounded during WWII while serving as a tank commander. Kalashnikov's aim was to create a durable and easily produced firearm to protect the borders of his motherland.
The reverse features a full colour image of Mikhail Kalashnikov, the designer of the AK-47 surrounded by an engraved border. The second coin features an engraved image of the rifle itself, a Russian soldier armed with an AK-47 and the famous red star, scythe and hammer of the Russian Federation.
The reverse shows Queen Elisabeth II effigy.
