The obverse of the coin presents the American bald eagle clutching an oak branch in its talons, a symbol of strength and endurance. Encircling the eagle are the inscriptions: "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" – the issuing country, "1 OZ. FINE SILVER" – the weight of the coin and the fineness of the Silver, "ONE DOLLAR" – the face value, and "E PLURIBUS UNUM" – the Latin phrase meaning "out of many, one", the motto of the United States of America.
