Mandala Art: a series that never ceases to amaze us!

Today, I would like to talk with you about the “Mandala Art” series, a long-running and popular series that never ceases to amaze us.

Mandalas and the Mandala Art Series

A Mandala is a spiritual and ritual symbol in Asian cultures and is defined by a geometric configuration of symbols. The word “mandala” is a Sanskrit word meaning “circle”. In their most basic form mandalas are indeed circles contained within a square and divided into sections that are all organized around a single central point.

Depending on the culture, Mandalas can be interpreted in a variety of ways. Typically, they are used to portray a visual picture of the universe or deities, as well as a spiritual path that leads to joy and bliss.

Since its debut in 2015, Art Mint's Mandala Art series has presented a single annual release, growing in complexity and ambition each time. The series focuses on how the Mandala concept has been interpreted across various cultures. The coins in this collection are stunning masterpieces of numismatic art. They are made of 3 Oz of pure Silver and feature an outstanding High Relief design that has become more detailed with each new issue. In addition to a stunning design, the series' unique element is a gemstone inlay that changes with each issue and marks the center of the reverse.

The series consists of six issues so far, plus a special edition honoring Notre Dame. In today's blog, I would like to show you some of the earlier issues that are still available on our website, as well as the incredible new release that stays true to the previous ones!

Buddhist Kalachakra

The Buddhist Mandala is the first issue in the series. Launched in 2015, it immediately established itself as an original and unique piece of art.

The coin's reverse is a stunning interpretation of a Buddhist Kalachakra Mandala struck in High-Relief. Kalachakra is a Sanskrit word that means "wheel of time" or "time cycles”. The Kalachakra Mandala is said to be a representation of the Universe as well as a spiritual path that leads to happiness and bliss. Originally, Tibetan Buddhist monks used colorful powders to create these Mandalas during the Kalachakra initiation ceremony. The mandala is made out of a square with four openings on each side, one for each of the four elements.

The coin's reverse features an extremely detailed design with a dazzling Swarovsky crystal in the middle. The Fijian Coat of Arms and issue data are included on the obverse, which is common to the series.

This coin was only produced in 500 pieces, and there are just a few left in the world. We only have one coin left in stock, so hurry!

Gothic Mandala

Let's go ahead to 2019 and look at the fifth edition of the Mandala Art series, Gothic Mandala. When you compare this coin to the first issue, which was already amazing, you will notice how much the design has improved thanks to an elaborate combination of delicate lines in multi-layered High Relief. A Gray Nacre Insert enhances to the design's appeal.

The coin shares the same design elements as the previous issues and is inspired by the enormous Gothic windows present in many European churches. For Christians, it depicts a journey from the outside world to the inner sacred core, where God resides.

The obverse on this coin is the same as it has been since the series started. This collectible is Antique Finished and has the serial number engraved on the edge.

Persian Mandala

The sixth outstanding issue in the Mandala Art series was released in 2020 and has nothing to envy to the previous issues!

The design is based on an ancient Persian motif known as “Shamseh”, which consists of several rays radiating from a central point. The center represents God, while the rays represent all the creatures in the universe. This theme was most likely introduced to Persia by Indian artisans and reinterpreted by Persian artists.

This coin brings a new element to the Mandala Art series: a domed center, which was also used on the most recent issue and encourages us to believe that it will be used again in future releases. The coin once again features an unlimited number of details struck in High Relief on many layer. A White Jade sits in the heart of the design, illuminating the coin. The obverse is the same as the rest of the series; the Antique Finish of the reverse face is carried over as well.

Turkish Mandala

The series' last issue was released near the end of 2021, and it is on a completely other level from the first!

The coin features the Turkish interpretation of the classical Buddhist mandala. The design has been further improved and presents a domed area inside a concave centre section. The perfection of the geometric details remains very impressive. The outer ring of the design is a masterpiece and presents an intricate pattern made of fine lines in High Relief. The focal point of the coin is its center, that features a beautiful iridescent Labradorite.
