The Queen’s Beasts

Queen Elizabeth II has been one of the most influential figures in the 20th century, redefining the modern conceptions of monarchy. While the political landscape both in the United Kingdom and the world has undergone drastic changes during her reign of 70 years, Elizabeth II has remained a popular monarch and was much beloved throughout the world.

When Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II was crowned on 2 June 1953, ten statues were created to form a guard of honour at the entrance to Westminster Abbey. The statues were commissioned by the British Ministry of Works from the sculptor James Woodford and presented the genealogy of Queen Elizabeth II. Each statue consisted of an heraldic beast supporting a shield bearing a badge or arms of a family associated with the ancestry of Queen Elizabeth II. The statues were uncoloured, except for their shields, and are now on display in the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, Quebec.

This is how the fascinating coin collection of Queen’s Beasts gained their name, with each coin telling the story of the pivotal events and twists of fate that shaped the course of history, tracing royal bloodlines from medieval times to the present day.

The Queen’s Beasts coin series is made up of 10 coins and a final completer, designed by Jody Clark and capturing all ten beasts side by side in a single design. Presented together on one coin, these magnificent royal guardians – lions, a griffin, a falcon, a bull, a yale, a greyhound, a dragon, a unicorn and a horse – exude the power and symbolism associated with the British monarch.

The final farewell to the Queen

A new design of the Queen’s Beasts Completer has been released in memoriam of Queen Elizabeth II and features the Queen’s Beasts final farewell to the Queen.

The coin has a vibrant Tyrian purple coloration, also known as royal purple as it is the official color of the Queen. It depicts a beautiful portrait of Queen Elizabeth II at the center, wearing a purple dress and hat and with a beautiful smile. The portrait is held by the Queen’s Beasts, giving the last farewell to the Queen and surrounding her.

The obverse of the coin features the colored effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the inscriptions: “5 POUNDS” – the face value, “ELIZABETH II” – the name of the Queen and “D·G·REG·F·D” – the latin acronym that stands for: Dei Gratia Regina Fidei Defensor.

The coin is Gold plated and comes in a case, along with the Certificate of Authenticity. Limited mintage of 100 pieces worldwide.
