ALEXANDER THE GREATAlexander the Great was the ancient Macedonian ruler who established the largest empire the ancient world had ever seen. Moreover, his influence in Greek and Asian culture was so profound that it inspired a new historical epoch: the Hellenistic Period. When he was only 12, he showed impressive courage taming the wild horse Bucephalus, an enormous stallion that later became his battle companion. Alexander was tutored by Aristotle in person and was only 20 years old when he claimed the Macedonian throne. |
THE REVERSEThe reverse of the coin features a very dynamic battle scene with soldiers running in the background, a rearing horse, and Alexander raising his sword. He is looking menacingly in the direction of what is probably an adversary. This image is rendered in an outstanding High Relief on a concave surface and is framed in a typical Greek pattern, also known as Meander pattern, which in ancient Greece was a symbol of infinity. The Meander is made of a long continuous line the repeatedly folds back on itself, recalling the ancient Meander river with its many twists and turns. The coin has a face value of 3.000 Francs and comes in a very elegant wooden case with the name of the series carved in the wood. |
THE OBVERSEThe coin has Antique Finish quality and has a rusty glossy finish on both the reverse and the obverse. The obverse is a miniature reproduction of Alexander’s shield and the red color application recalls the bronze the shield was made of. The shield is engraved with war scenes, animals, typical ceremonies and has at its center the Coat of Arms of Chad. The coin comes in a big square capsule with a themed packaging and some historical information about Alexander the Great. Limited mintage of only 199 pieces! |
