Posted on6 Years ago by Chiara 5010

Hi Dears, it’s Chiara, and welcome or welcome back to Power Coin’s Blog!

Today I’m so proud to introduce you to the new issue in the well-known “Lunar Year” series: Pig!

I know what are you thinking: “A 2019 coin?”. I know, I know, we are in the mid of 2018, but you know what dears? It’s never too early to buy silver coins!

Year of the pig

The sign of Pig

The Pig (豬) is the twelfth and the last sign of the Earthly Branches.
In the continuous Sexagenary cycle, every twelfth year corresponds to Hai and is commonly called “the Year of the Pig” (豬年).
There are five types of Pigs, named after the Chinese elements.
In order, they are: Metal, Water, Wood, Fire, and Earth.
In the Japanese zodiac and Tibetan zodiac, the Pig is replaced by the boar which is technically a pig.
In the Dai zodiac, the Pig is replaced by the elephant. In the Gurung zodiac, the Pig is replaced by the deer, no close relation to a pig.

The Coin

This beautiful 5 Oz Silver coin is part of the “Lunar Year” Series and is dedicated to those born under the Chinese lunar year of the Pig.
The coin’s design is made of inlayed Mother of Pearl, has an incredible Relief and a Proof quality.

The reverse of the coin shows a beautiful Pig in a farm.
All around the reverse, the inscriptions: “YEAR OF THE PIG” – the name of the coin and “25 DOLLARS” – the face value.

Look at this pink mother of pearl, I love it so much!

Pig Reverse
Pig Obverse

The Obverse

The obverse of the coin features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the inscriptions: “COOK ISLANDS” – the issuing country, “2019” – the year of issue, “5 oz Ag 999” – the weight of the coin and the fineness of the Silver and “ELIZABETH II” – The name of the Queen.
