PEACE OF WESTPHALIA 375th Anniversary 10 Oz Silver Medal 2023

The reverse side of the medal features three key actors of the Peace of Westphalia: Roman Emperor Ferdinand III, the French King Louis XIV and Cardinal Jules Mazarin. In 2023 we celebrate the 375th anniversary of the Peace of Westphalia, which ended the Thirty Years' War. One of the most important international treaties in the history of modern Europe. The reverse also incorporates the inscriptions: VESTFÁLSKÝ MÍR – 24. ŘÍJNA 1648 (translated as THE PEACE OF WESTFAL - 24 OCTOBER 1648). The obverse side reminds us that the peace was a set of two treaties: the Treaty of Münster and the Treaty of Osnabrück. The Latin inscription "CUIUS REGIO, EIUS RELIGIO" which literally means "whose realm, their religion" - simply describes the legal principle which, after the end of the Thirty Years' War, stated that the monarch was entitled to choose the religious declaration for his territory.
