The reverse of the coin depicts a wonderful coloured image of the Supernova. This fascinating phenomenon is one of the biggest explosions that can occur in the universe, when a massive star collapses and the overwhelming gravity compresses the nucleus rapidly, which then bounces back releasing a massive amount of energy. On the top left of the reverse, the inscription: "SUPERNOVA"- the name of the coin. The obverse of the coin shows the crab nebula, what remains of the supernova SN 1054, along with the inscription "KREBSPULSAR" - the name of a neutron star that was formed from the supernova in the year 1054, next to it, the inscription: "KREBSNEBEL NGC 1952" - the Crab's nebula name. Other inscriptions mark the distance and exact coordinates of the supernova from earth, in light yers. All around the obverse, the inscriptions: "2024"– the year of issue, "REPUBLIK OSTERREICH" – the issue country and "20 EURO" – the face value.
