The reverse of the coin depicts the legend of the Gordian Knot with an appropriately complex and convoluted mix of intertwined snake and rope, into which is a Gilded sword, no doubt the one famously used by Alexander to cut the knot. On the obverse, the effigy of Alexander the Great with a bold appearance and the inscriptions: "REPUBLIQUE DU CAMEROUN" – the issuing country, "2000 FRANCS CFA" – the face value and "2021" – the year of issue.
