The reverse of the coin depicts the Kuhl's Lorikeet also called Rimatara Lorikeet, a fast flying lorikeet with vibrant plumage, a green back, wings and crown, a blue nape and legs and bright red undersides and cheeks. The coin is partially colored with spectacular effects. On the top of the coin, the inscriptions: "Vini Kuhlii" and "Oceania". On the bottom of the coin, the inscription: "Rimatara Lorikeet" – the name of the bird. The obverse of the coin depicts the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. All around, the inscriptions: "ELIZABETH II", "Cook Islands" (issuer), "2 DOLLARS" (face value), "2016" (year of issue).
