The reverse of the coin is inspired by floral motifs typical of Chinese and Portuguese porcelain and it has blue details. Portugal and China have been in direct contact for half a millennium, ever since Portuguese navigators arrived in Malacca and their traders were among the first to import porcelain from China, which was immediately widely accepted. All coin finishes will have a square hole in the centre, a reference to the well-known Chinese coins. All around the reverse, the inscription: "ARTE DA PORCELANA" – the name of the coin.
