The reverse of the coin designed by Algonquin artist Frank Polson has recreates a captivating image of a full moon filling the sky as it sits low on the horizon behind a leafless tree. To the left, a man wears an eagle headdress as he honours the majestic messenger and calls upon it to carry his prayers to the Creator. The use of bold lines, and the insertion of vivid colour within black areas as if to reveal what lies within, is a signature design element in woodland art. Bear Moon marks the end of hibernation and teaches us to trust in our vision. Months earlier, the bear saw beyond the darkening days of autumn, and trusted that life would return to the forest. Bear teaches us to see beyond "what is", and to believe in our dreams. No need to growl and dominate others to get what we want. There is power in silent confidence and steadily moving towards our goal. On top of the reverse, the inscription: "CANADA" – the issuing country. The obverse of the coin depicts the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the inscriptions: "ELIZABETH II" – the name of the Queen, "2018" – the year of issue, "D·G·REGINA" – Dei Gratia Regina and "3 DOLLARS".
