COLLECTION MONDAY: Arcade Games
Hello friends, Ilaria here! Welcome back to Power Coin!
The Video Game world has changed a lot in the past decades, but I am sure many of you still remember the time when Arcade Video Games were the primary channel for new games.
THE GOLDEN AGE OF ARCADE VIDEO GAMES
The late 1970s and the early 1980s saw a period of rapid growth, technological development and cultural influence of Arcade Video Games. Thanks to new computing technology, during these years Arcade Video Games transitioned from black-and-white to color and rapidly became part of popular culture.
Over the time, Arcade Games were substituted by innovative and sophisticated game console, but they are still so charming that all over the world you can still find bars or pubs with an entire area dedicated to Arcade Games!
STREET FIGHTERS “Street Fighters” is an electronic fighting game series, originally released as an Arcade Game in 1987 by a Japanese game manufacturer. The main player controlled Ryu and a second player could join the game and control Ken. Together they would fight using Martial Arts moves. The game became very popular and gave rise to an entire genre of fighting games, sequels and spin-off. Future releases of this game included new characters, like Chun Li. This amazing video game is celebrated in the “Mini Fighter” series, a collection of 1 Oz Colroed Silver Coins representing the iconic characters of the game. So far the collection features three issues: Ryu, Ken and Chun Li.

PACMAN Could there not be a coin dedicated to one of the most famous Arcade game of all time? Pac-Man was released in the early 1980s with the Japanese name Puck-Man, later changed to Pac-Man as a preventive measure against defacement of the arcade machines by changing the P to an F. This Silver coin weights 1 Oz, has a yellow coloration, just like the iconic Pac-Man, and has a unique shape. The same design is also available in the 1 Oz Gold version. |

TETRIS Let’s conclude this voyage in the Arcade World with the King of all games: Tetris.
