Voyage dans la Lune: the first Sci-Fi movie

You have all probably seen at least once the now-iconic image of a rocket crashing into the moon's eye, but do you know where it originated?

It originates from Méliès' 1902 short movie "Voyage dans la Lune," which is regarded as the earliest science fiction movie ever made.

The movie, which is among the most influential in cinema history, tells the story of a group of men who take a giant bullet-shaped capsule to the moon. Hitting the moon in the eye, the six men land safely at their destination. They find that much about the moon is wonderful and fantastical, but also that much is not what they would have liked to encounter as it is life threatening. To return home safely, they must figure out how to escape their alien bind.

If you have never watched this movie, this could be the right time to do it, it only takes about 14 minutes!

A tribute to "A Trip to the Moon"

To celebrate the 120th Anniversary of the iconic movie, Power Coin has released a 2 Oz Silver coin with Antique finish.

The reverse of the coin is inspired by the original poster of the movie, released in 1902. The design depicts the moment when the capsule hits the moon in the eye. The capsule is polished, has a metallic vivid red coloration and features Power Coin logo. The surface of the Moon and all the lunar craters are in detailed Sartminting Ultra High Relief, same for the face of the moon and for the impact area of the bullet. A clever use of hues gives this amazing artwork a texture and makes the craters appear deeper.

The coin is Palau’s legal tender, its face value is 10$. Limted mintage of 500 pieces!
