BIRTH OF VENUS: THE FIRST EVER MICROMOSAIC SILVER COIN

Posté sur6 Années auparavant par Chiara 8674

Hi dears, it’s Chiara, and welcome or welcome back to Power Coin’s Blog!
Today I’m so excited because I can finally introduce to you the first ever micromosaic silver coin: Birth of Venus, a new issue by Power Coin.

Venus Micromosaic

What is a Micromosaic?

A micromosaic is a special form of mosaic composed by a variety of very small tiles to realize figurative images, just like classic mosaic art. This technique that requires a lot of passion, patience and steady hands in order for artisans to fashion pieces of art in actual “miniature mosaics”.
Ok, I would also like to spend some words about the beautiful painting depicted on this marvelous 3 Oz Silver Coin.

When was “The Birth of Venus” painted?

The Birth of Venus is a painting by Sandro Botticelli probably made in the mid-1480s.
It depicts the goddess Venus arriving at the shore after her birth, when she had emerged from the sea fully-grown.

What are the most famous Botticelli’s artworks?

Although the two are not a pair, the painting is inevitably discussed with Botticelli's other very large mythological painting, the Primavera, also in the Uffizi.
They are among the most famous paintings in the world, and icons of the Italian Renaissance; of the two, the Birth is even better known than the Primavera.
As depictions of subjects from classical mythology on a very large scale, they were virtually unprecedented in Western art since classical antiquity, as was the size and prominence of a nude female figure in the Birth.

Ok now let’s talk about this astonishing Silver Coin!

Birth of Venus Reverse

The Reverse

I have to say… this coin has it all!
Details, High Reliefs, Wonderful and NEVER seen colors!
We have put sooooo much passion and effort on creating this coin, and these are the fruits!

The reverse of the coin reproduces the beautifully colored face of Venus from the famous painting by Sandro Botticelli, struck with more than 5.000 tiles in exceptional high relief, to reproduce and empathize the extraordinary beauty of this piece of mosaic art in miniature.
On the bottom-right of the reverse, on these 6 tiles, we have the year of issue written in Roman numbers: “MMXVII” – 2017.

Impressive, right?

The Obverse

The obverse of the coin features the Coat of Arms of Palau, surrounded by a beautiful decorative mosaic pattern. All around the obverse, the inscriptions: “GREAT MICROMOSAIC PASSION” – the name of the series, “GMP” – the abbreviation of the series, “REPUBLIC OF PALAU” – the issuing country and “20$” – the face value.
