Just think of your favorite tale from your childhood, remove all the music and cute animals dancing in the animation movies you watched as a kid and focus on the story. Did you notice anything dark in it? Perhaps a dramatic death, monsters, witches, nasty wild creatures, and so on. Although we are accustomed to hearing fairy tales with a sweetened ending, the truth is that they are sometimes rather dark and unpleasant. Power Coin's "Fear Tales" series is centered on this concept: exploring and revealing the evil side of our favorite fairy tales. The first coin in the series, "Little Red Riding Hood," shows the young girl in the wolf's mouth. The next issue features "Little Match Girl" on the verge of death with the Grim Reaper at her side, whereas "Hansel and Gretel" shows the two siblings in danger from a wicked witch. |
Beauty and the BeastThe last and final release in Power Coin ”Fear Tales” series is inspired by the tale of “Beauty and the Beast”. There are several versions of the story, the most popular tells of a stunning girl being imprisoned in a castle by a terrible beast. The monster was once a prince, but an enchantress cursed him, declaring that he would remain a beast until he found love and was returned by another person. The story has a happy ending, but the new 2 oz silver coin's design only allows us to view a story of terror and panic. |

The coinThe beast is shown in profile on the left side of the reverse. The creature is depicted with its mouth open, as if it was screaming, and has thick hair with horns on its head. On the opposing side, Belle is portrayed as a scared young girl with tears in her eyes. The glass dome with the magical red rose and some falling petals lies between the two, who are standing back to back. Like the other coins in the series, “Beauty and the Beast” was hand-designed by Chiara Principe, her signature is visible at the bottom of the glass dome on the reverse side. The coin is 45mm in diameter, weighs 2 Oz and is made of pure Silver. The rose is colored and polished, and the two characters and the glass dome are minted in Smartminting Ultra-High Relief. The coin has an Antique Finish, Chiara decided on a black backdrop for this one to contrast with the faces of the characters. The obverse, which is the same on all coins in the series, depicts a gloomy woodland with a pointing sign that reads "Sadly ever after," the Coat of Arms of Palau, and the face value of $10. The coin is finished off by a beautiful case that is designed to resemble an old book and by the Certificate of Authenticity. Limited mintage of 500 pieces.
